Why ear care matters in care homes

Untreated wax build-up is strongly linked to hearing loss, which in turn accelerates confusion, social withdrawal and falls risk in older adults. Hearing aids also fail to work properly in blocked ears.

A short, regular visit from our team keeps residents hearing well — often with an immediate, visible lift in engagement.

Pricing for care homes

Group visit rates depend on the number of residents and location. Contact us for a quote — most homes find regular visits cost significantly less than individual appointments.

How to arrange visits for your home

Call us to discuss resident numbers and location, and we’ll quote a group rate and set up a first visit. Many homes move to a recurring schedule — typically every 3–6 months — so wax never builds to the point of affecting hearing or hearing aid performance.

What to expect at your visit

We know a care home has its own rhythms — mealtimes, medication rounds, activities — so we plan every visit around your routines, not ours. Our DBS-checked, NHS-trained clinicians work alongside your care team throughout, and one visit can treat multiple residents back to back. Here's how a typical visit runs:

Each resident typically takes 10–15 minutes, so even a full round of treatments causes minimal disruption to the day. To set up a first visit, call 0330 043 6890 — we'll agree numbers, timings and how your team would like consent handled.

Arrival — clinicians sign in, show ID, and agree the running order with your senior carer or nurse on duty
Setup — we work in a quiet lounge, treatment room or the resident's own room, wherever each person is most comfortable
Consent — we follow your home's consent processes for every resident, involving family or advocates where appropriate
Examination — a video otoscope check of both ears, which residents and staff are welcome to watch on screen
Treatment — microsuction, water irrigation or manual removal, chosen per resident on the day; we never rush anyone
After-check and aftercare — a re-check of each ear, then clear aftercare notes for the resident's care record
GP liaison — if anything needs medical follow-up, we write to the resident's GP so nothing falls through the cracks
Payment — invoiced after the visit as agreed when booking, with a treatment summary for each resident's file

Frequently asked questions

Is ear wax removal painful?
No — the procedure is gentle, safe and pain-free. You may feel light suction or water flow, and our clinicians will adjust or pause at any time if you feel discomfort.
How long does an appointment take?
Typically 10–15 minutes: a short health questionnaire, a visual ear health check, the treatment itself, then a re-check and aftercare advice.
What if no wax is found?
A £20 consultation fee applies, covering the clinician’s time and a full ear health assessment. Payment is taken after treatment, by cash or card.
Are your clinicians DBS-checked?
Yes — every clinician who enters your home is DBS-checked and NHS-trained, and our team also trains NHS staff and medical professionals in ear care. We're happy to provide documentation for your compliance records before the first visit.
How do you handle consent for residents?
We follow your home's own consent processes for every resident, working with your care team and involving family members or advocates where appropriate. No resident is ever treated without proper consent in place, and we take extra time with anyone who is unsure or anxious.
